You probably have a routine, or even a ritual, that you follow to get coffee into your cup every morning. Do you sometimes find that your coffee is not as good as it was the day before, and you don’t know why? Then this tip is for you.
It may seem a little over-the-top, but here is one simple thing that you can do to take control of your morning brew, and fine-tune the taste of your coffee.
It makes a difference. A good starting point is to have 1 oz. of coffee (by weight) for every 16 ounces of water. That means you need a food scale. As coffee is roasted it loses weight and expands. So, one scoop of a light roast is probably going to be a lot more coffee than one scoop of dark roast. By weighing your coffee, you have a baseline. If your cup was perfect, then you can do it again. Every time. If it was too, weak, you can weigh in a little more coffee. If it was too strong, a little less. By measuring, you get a clearer picture of what you are doing. And doing anything before coffee can be sketchy anyway.
