Spring is here! That means that warmer temperatures should soon follow. As that happens I begin to hear one of the strangest sayings. When offered coffee people will say “It’s too hot for coffee.”
While this confuses me, I can understand the desire for a cold drink. So, let’s learn how to make cold brew coffee.
While iced coffee is brewed normally, but at extra strength, and then diluted by melting ice in it to cool down, Cold Brew is, well, brewed cold.
The simplest method would be to use the same ratio of coffee grounds to cold water that you do for a regular cup of coffee. Put it all together in a sealed container (like a mason jar) in the refrigerator. After a few hours, pour the contents of the jar through a coffee filter into a cup. Viola! Cold brew coffee!
Because of the long brew time, the caffeine content will be a little higher, and the flavor bolder, but without the over-extracted bitterness of iced coffee. It takes some time, but it’s worth the wait.
